Pericles Foroglou, MD, Ph.D., FEBOPRAS is Consultant Plastic Surgeon and Associate Professor in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Aristotle University Medical School, Thessaloniki. His professional goals and objectives are to provide the highest standard of excellence in aesthetic reconstructive plastic surgery, inspire leadership, and advance safe practice.
His vision, which he shares with like-minded plastic surgeons, is to establish and foster aesthetic plastic surgery as a creative key component of existing safe and high-quality health-care services through approved plastic surgery specialist training, knowledge diffusion and transfer, public education, and international collaboration.
In addition to his special interest in aesthetic surgery, his areas of expertise are comprised of paediatric and adult craniofacial deformities and reconstruction, vascular anomalies and malformations, non-melanoma skin cancer, soft tissue tumours, head and neck reconstruction, complex wound defects and challenging revision surgery, where he is a member of the corresponding multidisciplinary teams. His research interests include advancement and innovation in aesthetic surgery, translational microsurgery, and wound healing.
The procedures he provides in aesthetic plastic surgery practice encompass the entire spectrum of aesthetic plastic surgery operations and adjuvant treatments, as well as non-surgical and cosmetic procedures, namely:
Facelifts, blepharoplasty, browlifts, rhinoplasty, genioplasty, malar surgery, otoplasty.
Breast augmentation, breast reduction, mastopexy, abdominoplasty, liposuction, structural fat grafting, bodylift, thighplasty and brachioplasty.
Scar revision, treatment of skin lesions, dermabrasion and microdermabrasion.
Botulinum toxin, injectable fillers, lipofilling, peels, skincare.
Professor Foroglou also practices in Athens where he collaborates with associates and maintains close ties with his colleagues in the UK.
Pericles Foroglou grew up in Switzerland, attended Lausanne University and Aristotle University Medical School from where he graduated summa cum laude. He later was awarded a Ph.D. from the Aristotle University again cum honore.
After his general surgery residency at the Metaxas Memorial Hospital and the 251 Hellenic Air-Force Hospital in Athens, he trained in renowned plastic surgery units in the UK at Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead, St Andrew's Centre for Plastic Surgery, Billericay, Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Aylesbury, Mount Vernon Hospital, Northwood, Royal London Hospital, and Royal Free Hospital, London. This was followed by fellowships in craniomaxillofacial surgery at the CHU Amiens, France and in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery at the Wellington Hospital, London.
He received his CCST and was admitted to the GMC Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery in December 1996 and subsequently became a Fellow of the European Board of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. From there he served appointments as a Consultant plastic surgeon in the NHS and in Europe.
He was appointed as a Faculty member to the School of Health Sciences Faculty of Medicine at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece's largest University and leading medical training Institution in 1998 whence he was promoted to his current permanent position of Associate Professor in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Professor Foroglou has a national and international reputation, having delivered multiple guest and plenary lectures at national and international conferences, meetings and Universities worldwide, and is a member of numerous relevant professional bodies and learned societies.
Alongside working as a plastic surgeon, Professor Foroglou is supervising higher surgical trainees in the only EBOPRAS accredited plastic surgery unit in Greece as well as teaching plastic surgery to undergraduate Medical School, Erasmus and Atlantis exchange programme students alongside postgraduate medical research methodology and audit. He has also organised and is currently running interactive teleconferencing at a national and international level of the monthly teaching meetings of the Hellenic Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery.
Concurrently with his commitments to teaching and training, he supervised 5 Ph.D. Theses, co-supervised another 12 and 1 postgraduate project, authored or co-authored 157 scientific journal articles & published abstract papers in clinical and basic sciences and 4 book chapters. He was the recipient of 3 scholarships, 1 bursary, 3 prizes and 5 awards for clinical and experimental work in plastic surgery throughout his career.
Professor Foroglou is an Examiner to the national Specialty Board for Plastic Surgery, EBOPRAS pool of Examiners member, University course Examiner of plastic surgery, Doctoral advisor and Postgraduate Examiner.
Professor Foroglou currently chairs the Aesthetic Surgery Section of the Hellenic Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (HESPRAS) where he also serves as an elected Council member since 2009, as well as being a member of its Education Committee, Ethics Committee, and Paediatric Plastic Surgery Section.
Professor Foroglou is also national delegate to the UEMS European Board of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (EBOPRAS), where he additionally serves as member on its Educational Committee.
